How we source and verify
Every age and legal statement on this site should be traceable to an official source and marked with the date we last checked it. This page explains how we compile the data and what our verification labels mean.
Where the numbers come from
Minimum ages and licensing rules are taken from primary sources wherever possible: the text of the statute (for example, the Gambling Act 2005 in the UK), the state or national regulator, or the official lottery. We link the source on the page so you can check it yourself. We do not treat other gambling websites as authoritative.
What the labels mean
- Verified date — the day we last checked that figure against its cited source.
- “Provisional — pending independent review” — the figure was compiled from the cited source but has not yet been signed off by a second editor. Treat it as a strong indication, not a final ruling, and confirm with the regulator before acting.
- “Citation needed” — we do not yet have a source we are willing to stand behind for that specific cell. We would rather show a gap than invent a number.
How often we re-check
Gambling ages change — Kentucky raised its sports-betting age from 18 to 21 in 2026, for instance. We aim to re-verify the jurisdiction dataset at least quarterly, and sooner when a change is reported. The verified date on each page tells you when it was last done.
A note on age data being complex
“The gambling age” is rarely a single number. Sports betting, commercial casinos, tribal casinos, lotteries, and daily fantasy can each carry a different minimum in the same place, and operators sometimes set a higher bar than the law requires. Where we are confident of one product’s age but not another’s, we fill in what we can source and leave the rest marked, rather than guessing.
